The Pension Insurance for Seamen This orientation is aimed at foreigners and/or non-norwegian speaking members of the Norwegian Pension Insurance for Seamen and it first and foremost takes up the topic of regulations for seaman's pension. The description of contributions to the scheme are not detailed, but provide a basic insight of how the system of contribution are constructed. Seaman's pension- The Norwegian Pension Insurance for Seamen is a public, mandatory service pension scheme established by the Act of 3 December 1948 no. 7, concerning pension insurance for seamen. The primary purpose of the pension scheme is to pay seaman’s pension to sailors between 60 and 67 years of age who have acquired a sufficient number of pensionable months on Norwegian registered ships (NOR and NIS).
- The Pension Insurance's expenses are covered by pension contributions from employees and shipping companies and by grants from the State. The Pension Insurance is guaranteed by the State.
- The Pension Insurance is led by a Board of 5 members appointed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion. Two members represent the seamen's associations and two are from the ship owner's associations. The fifth member is the leader of the Board.
